You did it, Jacksonville. You made a difference for Jacksonville's children.
Governor Crist has vetoed Senate Bill 6. Thank you for making your voices heard on behalf of Jacksonville's 123,000 public school students. Special thanks to the DCCPTA and all those who attended both the veto rally and the thank you rally!
But our work is far from over. Gov. Crist has announced his "Race to the Top" work group which will go after federal funds for Florida's struggling schools. That group includes our own Duval County School Board member W.C. Gentry, as well as grassroots parent representation from the Florida PTA, and they're relying on all of us for input.
You answered the call to defeat SB 6: Will you answer the call to stay engaged in our fight? We won't stop until Florida has a reliable funding source for public education; we won't stop until Duval County has discretion on how to use those funds to best serve our students.
You can help by:
1. Donating to Save Duval Schools now. We're asking those families who can to please spare a "Jackson" ($20) for Jacksonville's students. But no contribution is too small or too large to help us.
2. Joining ongoing discussions on our Facebook Fan Page. Thanks to advocates like you, we've surpassed the 1,000 fans mark! Please join us on Facebook and keep apprised of important updates on our Save Duval Schools Fan Page!
SAVE DUVAL SCHOOLS needs YOU to keep demanding that public education be our legislature's first priority. We are a grassroots organization with no paid staff and virtually no money--our strength is in YOU. Please click on the links above to donate and/or to join facebook today.
Jacksonville’s public school children are being cheated by our state legislature. This in turn affects every one of Jacksonville’s citizens by contributing to a high dropout rate, poor economic growth and a continuation of the cycle of poverty.
This crisis is about lawmakers’ failure to live up to the responsibility of our state constitution. Save Duval Schools is focused on getting lawmakers to do the right thing: allowing educators to educate, allowing local school districts to decide locally how best to serve students, and allocating resources so that all our students can succeed.
Save Duval Schools is a grassroots non partisan advocacy effort that is focused on getting the Florida Legislature to provide funding for a high quality public education.
We advocate for:
- a guaranteed source of funding for public education
- local control over how dollars are spent
